I was recently contacted by a resident of Northampton North concerning the facilities at the Victoria Street Coach stop in Northampton.
Constituents are understandably concerned about the state of some of the facilities at Victoria Street coach stop. A petition was set up calling for more benches – the lack of which is a problem for elderly people, younger children and the disabled – and also to raise the concern that the only lavatory at the coach stop is often out of order.
This petition, which now has over 400 signatures, is to get these facilities repaired and installed and I am supporting my constituent’s campaign. I want to thank public-spirited residents for collecting so many signatures; all that is wanted is “somewhere to sit and a toilet that works every time” which I do not think is asking very much!
I wrote personally to the Chief Executive of the Northampton Borough Council who in reply said that he was grateful to be made aware of the issue and that he has asked his officers to look into the matter and will act further when the Council receives the petition.
I am aware that this petition has now been submitted to the Northampton Borough Council and I hope the campaign is successful.
