In the last fortnight I went to visit a local business named EAS Mechanical after their owner contacted me asking to show me how they work to address a shortage in our skills economy.
EAS Mechanical, which is based in Northampton, uses their industry expertise to train young people in trades from electrical and plumbing to heating & ventilation and everything in-between. By studying the best practices within colleges nationwide, they have established a learning programme for school leavers who want to work in these trades – a training programme which emphasises the practical side of training in recognition that not every young person wants to follow an academic route to a career.
I was shown around the training centre and was thoroughly impressed by the facilities and the training given to young people to help them develop skills. It is really important that we equip the next generation with the right skills to succeed in later life and in particular, it is crucial that we offer a wider range of paths for school leavers such as apprenticeships- and EAS Mechanical is clearly contributing to that here in Northamptonshire.
