Eid is an important religious festival for many Muslims. At Eid al-Fitr, Muslims celebrate the end of daytime fasting during the month of Ramadan. The celebration promotes the coming together of Muslims to recognise the sacrifice they have made and highlight the common unity of the Muslim faith.
As regular readers of this E-Newsletter will know, I feel it is important to recognise and celebrate all faiths in our community, especially at major festivals.
An event was held last Monday morning on The Racecourse where a large scale celebration was under way to which I was honoured to be invited. I was very pleased to meet a large number of community members and the imams of the local mosques.
I was also pleased to support the Bangladeshi community in Northampton by attending their Eid event at the community centre in Mill Road yesterday.
The festival of the Martyrdom of Fatimah was marked by the Shia Muslim community with visitors from around the country coming to Northampton for the event yesterday- and I was very honoured to be asked to attend and speak at that event as well.
