As MP for Northampton North it is very important for me to work closely with local employers and businesses of all sizes.
I have held annual large-scale jobs fairs in Northampton which have included representatives from businesses with one or two employees all the way up to businesses employing hundreds of local people.
Opus Energy, a company that supplies energy to non-domestic users like other businesses, has been expanding very rapidly in recent years and now employs about 650 local people- they are one of the largest employers in Northampton North, and have also been expanding their business premises on the Moulton Park Industrial Estate.
I visited them before, several years ago, and was invited back to meet their Chief Executive, Charlie Crossley-Cooke. This was a good opportunity to discuss Opus Energy’s role in the town, the energy market in the UK as a whole, as well as employment and development opportunities for Northampton. Understanding local businesses is so important to my work representing the people of Northampton North, and I was pleased to have the opportunity to visit their business.
