Bees are an integral part of our ecosystem- without them the consequences to humans and nature would be severe, and I have been conscious and concerned about their plight for some time now. I know that this is an issue about which many of my constituents share my concerns, and I therefore visited an event in parliament on the subject recently.
There was considerable interest in the event and several MP’s attended from across the political spectrum. I was glad to have the opportunity to hear more about bees, in particular with regards to the use of neo-nicotinoid treatment of crops.
The scientists and a farmer at the event presented a lot of information on the subject, and I will bear this information in mind when looking into this issue with my colleagues in Westminster.
I know that other farmers and scientists have a wide range of views on the subject, and I hope that through events like this a well-informed policy can be reached.
