Every January, lots of people make New Year’s Resolutions to eat more healthily or take more exercise. We all know these can be hard to keep!
Recently, BBC Radio Northampton hosted an event at the County Cricket Club encouraging people to try and do more to look after their health, and showcasing the many ways to do it. There were demonstrations of ‘gentler’ sports, which are a good option for older people to keep mobile: there were demonstrations of ice-less curling, lawn bowls and walking football, to name a few. They were also rightly encouraging people to take control of their diets, as even small changes can have a big health bonus – as I confessed on the Radio, I am a chocoholic! They also had doctors on hand, encouraging people to look out for their own health, including investigating suspicious moles.
I am very keen to support these efforts to keep people active into old age, and the health benefits that good diet and exercise can have for so many of us, and so I popped over to the Cricket Club where I met Helen Blaby from BBC Radio Northampton, who was instrumental in setting up the day, with help from Northamptonshire Sport.
