Following the appointment of Rishi Sunak MP as Prime Minister I am no longer serving as part of the Government and will remain as a backbench Member of Parliament serving the people of the Northampton North constituency, as I have been since my election in May 2010.
I have held uninterrupted positions in government of one sort or another for ten years and one month.
I have served in the government of four Prime Ministers.
I have held eight ministerial positions and ten government roles.
I have been appointed to Cabinet three times.
I was the first Northampton Member of Parliament to be appointed to Cabinet in 100 years.
It has been a great honour to have served in government for so long and to have commanded the confidence of four Prime Ministers. My roles over the ten years have been as follows:
Parliamentary Advisor to the Chairman of the Conservative Party (Lord Feldman)
Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Home Secretary (Mrs Theresa May MP)
Deputy Leader of the House of Commons (Parliamentary Secretary)
Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Arts, Heritage and Tourism (Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport)
Minister of State for Roads (Department for Transport)
HM Solicitor General for England and Wales
HM Attorney General for England and Wales
HM Paymaster General
Minister for the Cabinet Office and Paymaster General
HM Attorney General for England and Wales
I was also appointed to Her Majesty’s Privy Council in 2019 and appointed one of Her Majesty’s Queen’s Counsel (now KC) in 2019.
I now very much look forward to continuing to serve as MP for Northampton North.
