This week I was pleased to take part in the ‘Wear it Pink’ event.
Organised by the charity Breast Cancer Now, this event in Parliament saw a number of MPs don something pink to show their support for the campaign. Regular readers may remember that I have supported this event for a number of years. Last year, ‘Wear it Pink’ raised over £2 million which goes towards helping ensure that people who develop breast cancer will live.
The most common form of cancer in the UK, there are over 50,000 diagnoses of breast cancer every year. Though predominantly found in females, breast cancer is not exclusively so; around 350 men are diagnosed with the disease each year. Nearly 700,000 people are believed to be living with or have been diagnosed with breast cancer.
With medical advancements constantly leading to more effective treatments against various forms of cancers, Breast Cancer Now aim to prevent deaths from breast cancer by 2050. Almost 1,000 women in the UK die from breast cancer every month, which works out at around 18 people in each constituency annually.
I was very pleased to support Breast Cancer Now and wore a pink tie and a pink shirt for the day. The full one day event will take place on Friday 21st October and I would encourage all those who wish to show support for this great campaign to Wear it Pink
