On Friday, 8th December I went to Kingsthorpe Bowls Club to meet members of the Club, watch them play, and even have a go at playing myself!
As many will know Bowls is a skilful sport for all ages which involves rolling a ball to another smaller ball a significant distance away so that it stops as close to the smaller ball as possible without touching it.
I discussed with the Chairman of the club the level of engagement with members of the local community who play and heard about impressive environmental efforts made by the club in Northampton to reduce their water consumption for the bowling green.
I last visited the club nine years ago, in 2014, and I was very pleased to see the excellent progress that the club had made. My uncle used to play at the club for a number of years, and always spoke fondly of his time there. Sporting institutions like the Bowls Club provide an excellent outlet for people to socialise and be active, and I hope to visit again in the future.
The bowls club has also written about my visit, which you can read in full via the following link: Kingsthorpe Bowling Club welcomes back Northampton North MP Sir Michael Ellis to NN2 8DZ (bowlsisbowls.com)
