As readers may well be aware, there was a significant fire in Bridge Street in Northampton Town Centre overnight on the 22nd August.
The day afterwards I was invited to attend the scene of the incident to receive an update from the Northampton Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS).
Local Members of Parliament across the country tend to be alerted when major incidents such as this take place and I sadly recall attending another major fire in Bridge Street some ten years ago. Over my 13 years as an MP I have been invited to attend the aftermath of a handful of major fires in Northampton to receive a briefing from the Fire Service.
The day after this fire I was accompanied by Northamptonshire’s Assistant Chief Fire Officer Mr Phil Pells to discuss the scale of the incident and the work that had been done in tackling the fire.
I asked the Assistant Chief to relay my thanks to the firefighters from across Northamptonshire whose rapid attention led to the fire being extinguished promptly.
