Action Support is a social enterprise in Northampton which helps groups of people, such as the disadvantaged and older individuals to get back into work, and they particularly help people with disabilities.
I was very pleased to pay them a visit and see the excellent work they are doing, teaching people skills and building their confidence to get back into work. I was particularly impressed by their restoration projects: they turn old, unloved furniture into refurbished, aesthetic and valuable pieces of furniture. There was also a beautifully restored Singer sewing machine which had been carefully rescued, and repaired with great skill.
Enterprises like Action Support, which blend charity with business, are such a powerful force for good in our town, creating jobs, skills and goods. It is not only governments which can fix society’s problems, or governments which take responsibility for them. Many individuals recognise that there are so many opportunities to make a positive difference themselves, and Action Support is a local group that makes a big positive difference in Northampton.
