I recently had the pleasure of visiting Northamptonshire Sport, a charitable organisation which works to improve physical health and wellbeing by encouraging access to sport for those across the local community.
Northamptonshire Sport is one of 43 Active Partnerships across the country and specialises in driving participation in physical wellbeing programmes, often in disadvantaged communities, by assisting in accessing funding and removing barriers to sport activities.
As a former minister at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, I certainly appreciate the unique role that physical activity plays in people’s wellbeing. This was particularly evident during the Covid-19 lockdowns, in which people’s access to physical activity was limited.
I thus welcome the important work done by those at Northamptonshire Sport, which I would encourage readers to find out more about. You can read about any programmes of interest via the following link: https://www.northamptonshiresport.org/
I also welcome Government’s investment towards sport initiatives to encourage health and wellbeing, which includes the £300 million funding package to support sport during the pandemic. This is in addition to numerous other funding initiatives to promote physical activity and well-being by Sport England totalling over £200 million per year.
