Now that we have had the re-opening of most non-essential retail shops and the further loosening of restrictions, I want to do everything I can to support our local economy in Northampton.
I visited some independent town centre shops to show my support as they begin to reopen following some three months of imposed lockdown restrictions.
St Giles’s Street won High Street of the Year just a few years ago and I was pleased to observe the great effort by retailers to prepare themselves to welcome customers again, with measures to adhere to social distancing after what has been an extraordinarily difficult time.
With lockdown restrictions substantially loosening thanks to the great national effort in controlling the virus, shops here in Northampton – particularly independent stores – very much need our support now that their doors are open.
I wish them luck with their full-time reopening, and I have no doubt that our community will support when they can.
I plan to visit more independent retailers in the coming weeks to show my support.
