To celebrate St George’s Day, all the groups of Scouts in the Northampton District held their parade through town and their annual get together event afterwards in Beckets Park. I went along again this year on a Sunday afternoon to hear the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers re-take their Oath.
The Scouts are the largest mixed youth organisation in Britain, and are rapidly expanding, both in Northampton and nationally. They have been giving boys and girls the opportunity for adventure, friendship, self-development and community service for over 100 years, with a focus on taking part in outdoor activities and helping others. I know that many parents in Northampton will have seen their children benefit from involvement in the Scouts, and I’m sure some will also have fond memories of their own time in the Scouts!
It was great to see so many young people and their families engaged in this celebration of Scouting and St George’s Day.
