The NHS is a national treasure which is envied worldwide. I support the staff of the NHS who do such a superb job and who provide crucial support to everyone in our community.
As long-term readers of my E-Newsletter may remember, I traditionally visit Northampton General Hospital on Christmas Day to show my appreciation for those spending Christmas treating patients when most other people are at home with their family and friends. This year I visited Northampton General Hospital A&E department on Christmas Day morning to show my appreciation. People can of course become ill on any day of the year and it demonstrates the dedication of our NHS staff that Northampton General Hospital was open and treating patients on this day.
I also thanked the staff at Northampton General Hospital and across the country working in our NHS during an interview I had with BBC Radio Northampton on Christmas morning.
Winter in general places heavy demands on the NHS, as factors such as the weather increase the demand on our healthcare services. This is why the government set aside £400 million specifically for “winter preparedness”, which ensured that we had 1,600 more doctors and 3,000 more nurses this winter as opposed to this time last year.
I will always do what I can to support those that work in our public services in appreciation of the great work that they do for everyone in our community.
