I was pleased to visit the Salvation Army in Northampton for their Employability Day recently.
The Salvation Army have nationally launched ‘Employment Plus’, a programme designed to help people who face the biggest barriers to employment, which may include education deficits, mental health problems or homelessness. I was very impressed to learn that 35,000 people across the British Isles have been helped with job support in the last year from this programme.
Events like the one I attended in Northampton have been held up and down the UK, including in Wrexham, Hastings, Liverpool and Glasgow, but I was told by senior officials of the Salvation Army that the branch in Northampton, led by Captain Tim Stone, has gone beyond the norm and is providing an exceptional service.
During my visit I recalled with the teams from the Northampton Job Centre Plus how I had personally organised many ‘Michael Ellis Jobs Fairs’ in Northampton for several years, which were hugely successful in helping people into work.
