Recently I visited the Northamptonshire Police Station at Campbell Square to talk to officers about the important work they do in the community. I have visited our local police since I became a Member of Parliament in 2010 and have always supported their work. Recently, the Prime Minister paid a visit to Weston Favell Police Station at my invitation.
On this visit I was shown CCTV footage of various crimes which have happened around Northamptonshire and talked through the procedures on how the police deal with these incidents. I was met at the station by Inspector Curlett, and she leads a team who are experts in this field.
Later I accompanied two plain clothes officers to check on an abandoned property. Combatting drugs, particularly relating to County Lines gangs, is a top priority of Northamptonshire Police and welfare checks consist of visiting known properties to ensure people there are safe. County Lines gangs transport drugs across the UK, often across police and local authority boundaries and it is thought that there are around 1,000 of these gangs currently active in the UK, each bringing in around £800,000 of criminal profit each year.
You can read about the work of Northamptonshire Police in combatting these county lines gangs and other such related crime on their website.
