Following on from last month’s “Community Champions” reception in Number 10 Downing Street, in which I was invited by the Prime Minister to nominate an individual from Northampton North who has had a positive impact on our local community to come to No10, I also recently had the privilege of nominating a “Charity Champion”- someone in my constituency who has made a sizable philanthropic impact in Northampton.
I nominated Mrs Neelam Aggarwhal-Singh MBE, who works with numerous charity organisations. Neelam is a founding member and Chair of the Indian Hindu Welfare Organisation (IHWO), which was first established in 1996 and works to assist the welfare of Northampton’s Hindu community and developing partnerships with the rest of the community.
The organisation also aims to build a multi-million pound Hindu Community Centre and Temple in Northampton. Mrs Aggarwhal-Singh has also been involved with the Northampton Inter Faith Forum (NIFF) and Northamptonshire Community Foundation for several years and has recently been elected as a trustee of the National Inter-Faith Network.
I was delighted to have had the opportunity to recognise those who have made a positive contribution to civic life in Northampton.
