Whilst in Birmingham I took the opportunity to meet many British businesses that attended the Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham earlier this month (October 2nd-5th).
Business is crucial to the success of our economy. We currently have the highest rate of employment ever recorded in this country, and unemployment in Northampton North is down by 58% since I became the MP in May 2010.
Our public services are paid for in part by the taxes businesses pay, and it is crucial that politicians listen and engage with British businesses in order to ensure that Parliament can make the decisions which will help them and our economy thrive.
As an example, JCB, a British business that is keen to find opportunities to expand their business at home and abroad, has grown significantly to be an international presence.
Of course as Prime Minister Theresa May has recently said, it is also extremely important that big business pay their taxes and take responsible positions on their social responsibilities. I know that the vast majority already do so, but where there are improvements to be made they should be.
