I strongly believe that it is very important to teach future generations about the workings of politics and parliament in order to encourage active participation and engagement in our political system. I was therefore very glad to welcome the students from Northampton College to Parliament.
During their visit on the morning of Monday, 11th December, the students of the College had a tour of the House of Commons during a sitting business day and got to see politics in action first-hand.
After their tour I met the students in a committee room adjoined to Westminster Hall and hosted a question and answer session with them. I believe that having the opportunity for young people to visit Parliament and meet sitting MPs is an excellent means of sparking an interest in policymaking to hopefully create the next generation of leaders.
I also visited Cedar Road Primary School on Friday, 12th December to meet very young Key Stage 2 pupils and host another question and answer session with the inquisitive children.
I am always happy to meet and discuss politics with students from Northampton schools both in Northampton and when they visit Parliament, so if you work in a Northampton school and would like any assistance in obtaining a tour of Parliament for your students then do get in touch and I would be happy to help.
