After the 2015 General Election I was one of the first MP’s in the country to go back out at weekends with a team of volunteers knocking on doors to canvass the views of my constituents in Northampton North. Plenty of people over the months since then have remarked how welcome it is to see a politician who campaigns and seeks views years away from the next general election!
In the last few weeks, I have been out at weekends with my team of volunteers delivering new newspaper-style leaflets. These free papers are produced, printed and delivered at no cost to the taxpayer.
It is very important to me that I get to meet as many of my 65,000 constituents as I can, so that I can best represent their views in Parliament, and serve them in the town. I am keen to see as many people as possible engaged in politics, and I think that keeping people informed about my work is one of the best ways to achieve this.
To do this, I try to visit schools, care homes, businesses and employers as often as I can. I also go around with my team of volunteers ‘canvassing’ - knocking on doors and introducing myself to gather up opinion, but obviously I can’t catch everyone when they are at home!
Thousands of people in Northampton North now receive this fortnightly E-Newsletter via email, but I am also trying to reach lots of other homes with the Northampton North Campaigner newspaper, which I have been out delivering in the town. In the Northampton North Campaigner, besides highlighting my work in the town I have also included a short survey so that people can share their opinions with me.
If you have not already received it, you may well be getting a copy of the Northampton North Campaigner through your letterbox soon, but if not please take a look at the copy attached below.
