Recently I visited the Angela Grace Care Home to celebrate National Care Open Day which took place on Friday 17th June.
This gave me the opportunity to spend some time speaking to both residents and nursing and care-giving staff where they were celebrating the Queen’s 90th Birthday. It was a great opportunity for the staff there to show me around the facilities and give me an insight into some of the vital care they give to residents. A Care Home can often be a daunting prospect for older members of our community but Homes such as Angela Grace display a high level of care and an emphasis on ensuring residents enjoy their time.
As I arrived I was greeted by Residents who were taking part in a song and dance with Union Jacks, special cakes and drinks in celebration of the magnificent service of her Majesty the Queen.
It was a brilliant opportunity to celebrate with residents and staff and also to learn of the sort of lifestyle those living there have. Residents were keen to come forward and tell me how much they were enjoying the day and how grateful for the help of the care staff they were. The praise for care staff such as this is often overlooked. It is not simply a caring role but also a support and entertainment role, and without their efforts the residents would not be able to enjoy days such as The National Care Home Open Day.
