On Tuesday 24th October I was invited by the Secretary of State for Education, the Rt Hon. Gillian Keegan MP, to nominate a local “Skills and Apprentices” Champion from Northampton to visit 10 Downing Street.
This follows previous receptions at No10 Downing Street for military veterans and local Police champions, for both of which I also nominated someone from Northampton to attend.
On this occasion I nominated Kingsthorpe Councillor Sam Rumens as the Skills Champion for Northampton North.
Sam is one of the youngest councillors in Northamptonshire and has been an extremely diligent, hardworking Councillor in Kingsthorpe for several years.
He completed his own apprenticeship in accountancy which has led to him becoming a qualified chartered accountant. Sam is now in a supervisory position in a local accountancy firm and he in turn is responsible for hiring apprentices as part of his team!
I welcome the receptions at Downing Street to celebrate the work of members of our local community who have made a contribution to Northampton.
