On Wednesday 8th February I was pleased to attend the address of the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, to members of both Houses of Parliament in Westminster Hall. In the address President Zelensky highlighted his country’s brave resistance against the ongoing Russian invasion, and warmly thanked the British people for their continued support.
The Ukrainian President and his country welcomed the British Government’s steadfast support for Ukraine in the defence of their country against unwarranted aggression. I am supportive of the recent announcement by the Ministry of Defence confirming the export of British tanks to assist the Ukrainians and I commend the Government’s excellent record of supporting Ukrainian refugees, and supplying the Ukrainian Government with defensive armaments. My support for Ukraine has led to me being personally sanctioned by Russia.
President Zelensky is an admirable figure on the world stage who has led his country’s fight for their independence courageously, and I have no doubt that Britain will remain the world’s fiercest advocate for democracy and a nation’s right of self-determination.
