Following on from previous Downing Street receptions to celebrate apprentices, military personnel and NHS workers, I was invited by the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Michael Gove MP, to nominate a local “Levelling Up Champion’.
I nominated Arthur Newbury to be the Levelling Up Champion for Northampton North. Arthur is a local community organiser and volunteer. For years he has worked with vulnerable members of the local community by offering aid and support where needed. He ran a food bank in the St David area of Northampton, having worked tirelessly for decades for those who require support in a variety of other roles in our community.
We attended a reception at the Prime Minister’s residence of Number 10 Downing Street on Tuesday, 14th November with other MPs and the Levelling Up Secretary.
I have attended several ‘community champion’ receptions with my Northampton nominees as a way for me to recognise and celebrate the work of their constituents who have made an indispensable contribution to the Northampton community.
