Saturday, 24th June marked Armed Forces Day and I made sure to recognise the important work of His Majesty’s Armed Forces by walking in procession from the Guildhall to Wood Street with local councillors, to attend the military parade that took place in Northampton Town Centre.
The parade of military personnel and cadets was an excellent way to mark Northampton’s commitment in supporting our troops. I also witnessed the Mayor of Northampton signing the Military Covenant, which promises military veterans priority in local services.
Several stalls were also set up in the piazza of All Saint’s Church by The Royal British Legion, the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Family Association, the Western Front Association and Army Benevolent Fund, the Royal Airforce Association, the Royal Marines Association and Help for Heroes. Joining these organisations were Northamptonshire Health Charity and NHS Nene Changing Minds and I was pleased to visit these stalls that Saturday morning to show my support.
