After a historic year in British sport which has seen Team GB come second in the Olympic Medal Table, our best performance since the 1908 Summer Olympics; and Andy Murray’s fantastic Wimbledon win. All this and there is still the potential for so much more success with the Paralympics now in progress and Lewis Hamilton locked in his title battle in the Formula 1 World Championship.
Last week I was invited by Northamptonshire Sport and the Lawn Tennis Association to Kings Park Tennis Centre to see the Davis Cup Trophy as it tours the UK. The event itself was a ‘Festival of Tennis’ to celebrate the Davis Cup Trophy being in Northamptonshire and the Association were running tennis activities for schools and some events for adults. I think this is a great incentive for young people to get into sport – when one of the top competition trophies can be seen it can really serve to inspire young people to go on and perhaps one day compete for the trophy themselves.
