The Government is acting on the advice of the Chief Medical Officer and the Chief Scientific Advisor and is intervening to assist the people of this country and its economy.
The UK Government is following the best medical and scientific advice in the world.
The situation is very fluid and advice can change. Measures the Government is taking to support individuals and businesses may also change and expand. I am attending emergency COBRA meetings of government regularly in my capacity as HM Solicitor-General.
Up-to-date information and guidance from HM Government on the Coronavirus, including stay at home guidance, can be found on this website: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-information-for-the-public.
Up-to-date information and guidance from the NHS on the Coronavirus can be found here: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/.
A copy of the Government’s Coronavirus Action plan is available here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-action-plan.
Northamptonshire County Council also have a dedicated website with updates which is available here: https://www.northamptonshire.gov.uk/coronavirus-updates/Pages/default.aspx.
I would strongly encourage all people to follow the advice from the NHS and the Government from the above websites.
Wherever possible, please also take the time to contact elderly or high-risk relatives and neighbours. We will all need to work together and support each other in the coming weeks.
Volunteers are needed during this difficult time and if you are able to volunteer in any way then there are multiple options:
The NHS has its own dedicated volunteer service which you may have heard has already received more than 750,000 offers of help. You can sign up here: https://www.goodsamapp.org/NHS.
In addition to the Government's volunteer scheme for people to help the NHS, Northamptonshire County Council is also co-ordinating a local effort along with other councils and partner organisations for people to help their community. Thousands have already joined up locally. Please do consider joining up and help those most in need!
Alternatively, Age UK Northamptonshire are also doing brilliant work in assisting elderly people during this time and you can volunteer for them here: https://www.ageuk.org.uk/northamptonshire/get-involved/volunteer/.
