I was delighted to go to Waitrose supermarket on the Harborough Road in Kingsthorpe to lend my support to the schoolchildren running their “grow and sell” stalls.
Earlier in the year Waitrose gave some local schoolchildren seeds and other produce which they had to take home or to school, cultivate and look after. They were then invited back to try and sell their own home-grown goods!
Some primary children grew fruit and vegetables, others made jams and some grew bouquets of flowers.
It’s great to give children the opportunity to grow their own foods, learn how things grow and see first-hand the benefits of their patience and hard work!
Whilst at Waitrose I was delighted to present several long-service awards to employees, some of whom have worked at Waitrose for over 40 years.
