Today I visited Age UK (formerly Age Concern) in York Road to meet the elderly users, staff and volunteers.
Many of the users of the centre visit regularly to get out of the house and for some company and social interaction.
The workers and volunteers do a great job in looking after the users.
I had a chat with the management about the social care and financial challenges facing elderly people in the UK today and in the coming years. As a country, we are expected to live longer as the century progresses and these sorts of issues will affect us all.
It is right that we look after the elderly in our community and that they get to live in comfort and dignity in old age.
