The House of Commons was recalled on Friday by the Prime Minister to debate the threat of ISIL and whether we would join the growing coalition of countries willing to provide air support to fight this extremist group.
No doubt we have all seen the news reports over the past few months showing the barbaric regime of ISIL which has taken over large swathes of land in Northern Iraq and Syria- now occupying territory the size of Great Britain. They have been mercilessly killing British and American civilians and aid workers in brutal fashion. They have also been doing the same to countless Syrians, Kurdish, Lebanese, Yazidis, Christians and many more.
However by far the biggest victims of this wicked group has been fellow Muslims- both Sunni and Shi’ite.
These people do not represent the great religion of Islam.
The UK has not voted to send ground troops and has not voted to strike ISIL in Syria. However, following a request from the legitimate, democratically-elected government in Iraq to help them defend themselves and in coalition with five Arab Sunni-Muslim states in the region that UK voted for air strikes against ISIL in Iraq and I attended and contributed to many hours of debate in the Commons on this issue before voting in support of it.
