The horrific murder in France of magazine journalists, police officers and members of the Jewish community at a supermarket highlights the need for vigilance and security in this country.
People of all colours, faiths and politics from countries across the world came together in defiance of these terrorists.
I received correspondence from Muslim leaders in Northampton vehemently condemning these horrific attacks and, as we all know, these terrorists do not represent the faith of Islam. I was particularly moved by the Muslim shop worker in the Kosher supermarket who shepherded his Jewish customers to a safe place in the basement- his actions were inspirational.
There is a debate in this country which has been ongoing for several years now about bringing the legal powers available to the police and security services up to date so that there are no safe havens for terrorists and criminals just because of their use of modern forms of communication.
Over the course of the past four years I have been at the forefront of the work in parliament to update our laws, and I spent six months on a committee in parliament in 2012 investigating this subject and taking evidence about it.
In 2013 I was interviewed on the BBC Politics Show about it with Jimmy Wales, the founder of Wikipedia. You can see that debate by clicking here for the BBC News website.
