I have been helping local businesses in Northampton to obtain financial assistance from the Government during the Covid-19 outbreak. Businesses have suffered immensely throughout this pandemic due to forced closures and a lack of economic activity so it is vital that business owners and their employees are supported at this time.
No country in the world has been more generous than the UK in terms of financial assistance to its people and businesses, and this is something for which we can be very proud.
Newly released data from the Treasury and the British Business Bank show the scale of financial support that has been given specifically to businesses in Northampton North.
Here in Northampton North, according to the Treasury, 4,800 self-employed people have been given £14.5 million of support through the Self-Employment Income Support Scheme and 13,100 workers have been receiving furlough support from the Government.
With regard to businesses in Northampton North:
- Over 1,000 businesses have been given more than £43 million through the Government’s Bounce Back Loan scheme
- 969 local businesses have been given cash grants, from the Government, of up to £25,000 – with the total money paid out at over £11 million
- 347 local businesses in the retail, hospitality and leisure sector will pay no business rates this year
I am very pleased with the level of financial support that the Government has given to businesses in Northampton North and I intend to continue to support businesses so that they can continue to employ local people and contribute to our economy.
