I was pleased to be invited to visit a Northampton business in Moulton Park Industrial Estate called Collins Fresh Produce, which has been an important part of Northampton’s economy since its establishment many years ago, employing dozens of people and supplying several businesses, notably in the hospitality industry, with fresh fruit and vegetables.
The pandemic has naturally affected us all, particularly small- and medium-sized businesses, but I was pleased to learn that Collins Fresh Produce were largely back to pre-pandemic levels, and they are benefitting from the relaxation of restrictions which has facilitated the reopening of hospitality-related outlets.
It is a family business run by Mr Collins. In March 2020, as restrictions were initially imposed, the pandemic disrupted much of the business overnight, with the mass closure of the leisure industry. With the nation in lockdown and 53 refrigerated vehicles this business innovatively set up a retail delivery offer and this new side of the business has been an overwhelming success.
I want to do everything I can to support our local economy and the businesses that make it what it is. If there is anything you feel I could do to help your local business, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
