In the last fortnight I visited Fabtronic, one of Northampton’s innovative small businesses, based in Moulton Park.
Prior to Covid-19, Fabtronic were actively involved in the Events industry supplying a variety of sound, audio and lighting equipment to a wide range of high-profile events, with clients such as Aston Martin and Ferrari.
The pandemic has of course sadly meant that live events such as conferences and car launches have ceased to function.
Fabtronic have been trying to adapt to the current business environment and have pursued other avenues to keep their small business in operation. They have, for instance, looked to increase their sales of equipment, such as DJ equipment, for personal use for individuals who are spending more time than normal at home.
Alongside this, they have moved into an area that I found rather touching. They have been working with Care Homes to fit speakers and microphones on either side of Perspex screens and a ‘hearing loop’ to enable visitors to communicate with loved ones safely during the pandemic.
This small local business has also begun manufacturing small mobile trolleys suitable for easily pushing to bed-bound residents which have a screen set up for video calling – such as Zoom - to allow residents to speak to loved ones via video call at the press of a button, and without the need of a PC.
Fabtronic invited me to visit their business in Northampton and I was very impressed to see how they have adapted to the current business environment with innovation and perseverance. I want to do everything I can to support our local economy and the businesses that make it what it is. If there is anything you think I could do to help your local business, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
