In recent weeks I visited the Government Communication Headquarters (GCHQ). GCHQ is a world leading intelligence, cyber and security agency whose core mission is to keep the UK safe from those who threaten national security. On my visit I heard about their diligent work across five established missions which helps to keep the country safe, including:
- counter terrorism
- cyber security
- serious and organised crime
- strategic advantage
- support to defence
Throughout the pandemic, GCHQ have protected the NHS and supported the Government’s national response to Covid-19, providing invaluable support as new global threats develop. With new technologies emerging which in turn produce new threats to national security, GCHQ’s role in keeping the UK safe is more crucial than ever before.
