In the last fortnight, I spoke with members of Northampton Borough Council’s (NBC) Youth Forum about the issue of gambling.
Recently, NBC’s Youth Forum (the town’s ‘youth council’) – did some work raising the awareness of gambling-related harm, which included a questionnaire that measured awareness levels, attitudes towards gambling and local people’s gambling habits. Their work was so impressive that they were invited to present their findings at a symposium held by the Young Gamblers Education Trust (YGAM) and City Law School at the City University of London.
At an event on a Friday evening I joined two other Northamptonshire MPs and spoke to the group and answered their questions on gambling at a “Cake and Debate” event in Northampton. I was impressed by the Youth Forum – their work to raise awareness about the dangers of irresponsible gambling is important. It was also encouraging to meet young people who took a real interest in political issues and who are taking action on matters that are important to them.
