Soon after the General Election the Prime Minister appoints selected MPs to ministerial positions in the Government.
I was delighted to be asked to re-join the Government as a Minister in the position of Deputy Leader of the House of Commons – a role I was first appointed to by Prime Minister Theresa May on Sunday, 17th July 2016.
It is an honour to continue to serve as part of Her Majesty’s Government. As Deputy Leader of the House of Commons, it is my job to help organise the Government’s legislative agenda and to ensure that legislation is ready and in good order to progress through the various stages in the Commons. It is also my duty to be a representative for all the backbenchers in the House, from whatever party.
With Brexit likely to dominate the Parliamentary agenda in the coming years, the role of the Deputy Leader and Leader of the House of Commons (who is the newly-appointed Andrea Leadsom MP (South Northamptonshire)) is likely to be more challenging and I relish the opportunity to play my part in ensuring democracy runs smoothly.
As always, I will of course continue to serve all residents of Northampton North with the same dedication and workload as I did for the 6 years prior to becoming a Government minister.
