I was delighted to be asked by the Post Office to re-open the newly-renovated Post Office on Kingsley Park Terrace.
Post Offices play an important role in our communities; they are a source of community cohesion and a local focal point for many people.
I was pleased to meet the family who run this Post Office, as well as the staff and some of the regular customers.
At the same occasion we celebrated the fact that the sub-postmaster, Mr Tarsem Rela, was marking his 40th year working at the Post Office and his 30th at this particular branch- and he received a long-service award during the event.
I support more co-operation between Government and our local Post Offices, and to this end I support the new 7 year contract awarded to the Post Office to provide services on behalf of the DVLA as well as the UKBA.
I am confident the Post Office will continue to play an integral and unique role at the heart of community life in Northampton for many years to come.
