On the 21st June 2018 I took part in a question and answer session in the House of Commons for Ministers in the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) of which I am one.
I told the House of Commons that museums play an important role in our lives and in society. After being asked about the Mackintosh building in Glasgow which recently tragically burnt down, I mentioned to the House that we, here in Northampton, have a Mackintosh building in the Charles Rennie Mackintosh House, which is home to some great art galleries.
Later in the debate, I was also quizzed about the steps my department is taking to promote sports-related tourism here in the UK. I pointed out to the House that the Government has worked hard to secure some great global sporting events to be hosted here in the UK such as the 2019 Cricket World Cup, some Euro 2020 matches as well as the Commonwealth Games in 2022. The UK is a great place to host such sporting events- and on the issue of sport I would like to wish the England football team luck in the World Cup!
