Many residents of Northampton North contact me to highlight the problem of litter in Northampton.
Local street cleaning comes under the jurisdiction of local councils and when fly-tipping is brought to my attention I always personally write to the Chief Executive of Northampton Borough Council to highlight specific instances of litter and fly-tipping in an attempt to address the issue. The Council are often very responsive and resolve the issue in a timely manner.
We all need to take better care of our local environment – and I was impressed on a Saturday morning recently to meet dozens of local people who had got together as a community action team in Abington to do a community litter-pick. As well as speaking to several local residents about their concerns before the litter pick started I also had a meeting with local Abington councillor Tony Ansell and met two of the council Neighbourhood Wardens.
Whilst it is the Council’s responsibility to keep on top of litter and street cleanliness, we can and should all do our bit to keep our local communities clean and safe.
