I attended a Prayer Service at St. Stephen’s Crypt in Parliament which was held for persecuted Christians around the world. I met the Archbishop of Canterbury there and expressed my support and that of the many constituents who have contacted me about this issue.
With the spread of extremism across the Greater Middle East, Christians have been increasingly at risk of violence simply because of their religion. From Coptic Christians in Egypt to Christians fleeing Syria- Christians and indeed many other religious minorities are being targeted in the region and in other parts of the world.
I am proud of the huge humanitarian effort co-ordinated by the UK Government for the refugees displaced by this violence. The UK is in fact the second largest provider of aid to Syria in the whole world. This will have the real impact of saving lives on the ground.
