This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending the annual dance show ‘Junction 18’ featuring several Northampton schools performing on stage at the Cripps theatre at Northampton School for Boys.
As Minister for Arts, encouraging and supporting the Arts, including Dance, is something I am keen to do.
Head Teachers I have spoken to confirm that having a strong base of extra-curricular activities in a school helps overall academic grades, encourages discipline, strengthens school spirit and boosts confidence and self-esteem in young people. NSB’s dance department is both an exceptional example of the arts as well as being a shining example of local talent.
I will be using my ministerial role to highlight the abundance of culture we have in Northampton, not just the Arts but also in terms of heritage and tourism.
One group of young dancers from NSB have been invited to perform at London’s Excel Centre later this year at “Move It!” the UK’s largest and most prestigious annual dance event.
