Michael invited the Minister of State for Education and Childcare, Liz Truss MP, to visit Northampton and have a look around a local primary school and a nursery and meet some of the children and staff. Michael was delighted when Liz, who has primary school age children herself, accepted his invitation to visit the town.
When asked about their visit Michael said:
"Cedar Road Primary School in Abington is an excellent example of a really well run school and I have visited several times since being the MP. Whether it’s in the classroom or an assembly the children are always impressive and bright.
The teachers here, like teachers across the town, work very hard and do an important job very well. Teachers work long hours under stressful conditions and I wanted to introduce the Minister to more Northampton teaching staff of whom we can be proud, for the work they do to broaden the horizons of our young people- which benefits everybody in the community."
Ms. Truss also added:
“I was really impressed with the students enthusiasm for learning. The evidence I saw of the children’s writing ability was tremendous.”
Michael then took the Minister to Child First day Nursery in Moulton Leys, where they saw another really well run nursery and met the staff and children. They were given a tour of the grounds and met some really happy children.
