I was very concerned to hear a few hours before the Easter holiday weekend that Cedarwood Nursing Home on the Kettering Road had been put into administration and the residents and their relatives were being given only four weeks’ notice to find alternative accommodation.
It was obvious to me that four weeks’ notice was an unacceptably short amount of time, especially considering that these are particularly vulnerable residents in many cases.
I therefore contacted a senior Director at Santander Bank – the main creditors for the home – and asked the Bank to arrange for the administrators to extend the period from four weeks to at least nine weeks. Following my intervention Santander agreed to extend the closure period by five weeks on top of the original four weeks which has given Northamptonshire County Council more time to ensure the residents’ interests are respected in a dignified and appropriate way.
I will continue to keep a close eye on this important matter and am always happy to help in any way that I can.
