As many constituents may already know, the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced in the Budget that, thanks to my campaign here in Northampton, he is allocating £200m to combat the poor state of some our roads across the country. So what happens now?
The next step is that Northamptonshire County Council (NCC) needs to put in an application in the coming weeks to secure some of that money from the Government specifically for Northampton. I intend to closely monitor the bidding process, and help the Council to make the most effective application.
Next week I will be meeting Cllr Jim Harker, the Leader of NCC, and other senior officials to discuss the bid they will be putting forward to the Government, and offering my advice on how best to make this application, so that we receive the most generous sum from the Government possible.
It is important that after all the hard work over recent months we do not let up now!
