In recent weeks the House of Commons has been looking into how we can protect vulnerable animals from exploitation.
There have been several debates. The first was on the Wild Animals in Circuses Bill. I am strongly opposed to wild animals being made to perform in circuses and I therefore fully support a ban of this practice. Fortunately I am told there are very few circuses still using wild animals in this country- the practice is still prevalent abroad, but even one in this country is too many.
There was also a debate on banning puppy and kitten farming in the UK. Like many British people I am an animal lover and hearing about their mistreatment nauseates me. I hope some appropriate action can be taken to protect these animals in future.
