Today Michael welcomed the Minister for Policing, Criminal Justice and Victims, Damian Green MP, to Northampton to see the good work being done by Northamptonshire Police.
The Office for National Statistics released its crime statistics last month which shows crime is down nationally by over 10%. In Northamptonshire, violent crime is down by around 15%- the highest recorded fall in the country. This is a record-breaking fall in crime- which shows we are getting a grip on crime, and it is thanks to the hard work of our police officers and staff.
Michael invited the Minister to come to the University of Northampton where they were told about a new police/community programme called L.I.S.P. (Locally Identified Solutions and Practices) which encourages people to draw problems and issues in their area. Michael and the Minister both welcomed the scheme which promotes engagement and a dialogue between the local community and the police.
The Minister then went on to Weston Favell Police Station where he heard about the work of officers there to reduce crime and engage with young people.
