On Sunday morning, 29th March, I was invited by our Northampton Sea Cadets to join them at the Guildhall as they marched in their annual parade through Northampton Town Centre.
The Sea Cadet Corps trains young people based on the customs of the Royal Navy and encourages responsibility, teamwork and self-confidence through a wide range of activities, sports and adventures.
The Sea Cadets exercised their right to march through the street as Freemen of the Borough and there were many families, friends and passers-by who showed their appreciation for the work they do and clearly enjoyed the event.
The march recognised the young cadets of today as well as commemorating the sacrifice made by the Ships Company of the Northampton adopted ship, HMS Laforey. This year marks the 71st anniversary of its sinking by enemy action in World War Two.
Our local Sea Cadets are very popular and I was pleased to give my support.
