I was very pleased to welcome Elizabeth Truss, the Environment Secretary, to Northampton North on Friday afternoon.
Elizabeth is the youngest ever woman to join a Conservative cabinet and is a real rising star in the party- so I was delighted that she joined me in Northampton North for an afternoon of campaigning.
As the Secretary of State with responsibility for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Elizabeth has campaigned in favour of Great British produce- and in the Conservative manifesto for the General Election she has promised to greatly increase the number of Great British foods that will have 'special protected status' abroad - boosting our great food producers and helping our economy.
To celebrate this popular policy I took Liz to the Nisa Local shop on Chalcombe Avenue in Sunnyside to discuss food and business policy with the owner Nilesh Parekh.
Liz was delighted to see that Nilesh had recently expanded his shop and has plans to expand further - he feels able to do so thanks to the great improvements in the economy we have seen in the time that the Conservatives have been in power.
I also introduced Elizabeth to some of my young campaign team who were very pleased to meet her!
